People with functional impairments
Impairment of function means loss of, damage to or deviation in a body part or in one of the body's psychological, physiological or biological functions. Due to a lack of knowledge about people with disabilities, little support from society and government funds, it is difficult for people with disabilities to live a normal life.
It is society's task to work towards facilitation, so that the environment does not create barriers for people with disabilities. No one deserves to be treated differently because of their cognitive function or impairment.
In the Congo, people with disabilities have no rights. There is no support from the state and in society they are only seen as a burden. They are unwanted and are thus shielded from society, this for their safety as many are exposed to various types of violence on a daily basis. No one should be able to experience something like this, therefore the Shimama Organization should extend a helping hand to people with disabilities.
Your support has helped Ishara
Ishara is a 13-year-old boy who suffers from hydrocephalus. A condition where spinal fluid collects in the cavities of the brain. Because of your support, Ishara has now undergone surgery and received the health care he needs. In addition, Ishara's mother has also received help to both house and shop, so that they manage better on their own.
Shimama is still following up Ishara, as the disorder is long-term and requires good follow-up.

Shimama Organization works in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
