Our work

Shimama is built on us extending a hand to people who find themselves in difficult situations. The idea is that we should contribute something that can help the recipient to be able to stand on their own two feet.

The aim is to encourage independence and the ability to manage life with the support one receives. We don't want anyone to be permanently dependent on help Shimama will extend a hand and help you up, so you can get back on your feet and you can later extend a hand to others.

Orphans

Shimama works to ensure that children in the DR Congo can live safely, by protecting them from abuse, mistreatment, forced child labor and forced recruitment about child labour.

Women

Women are exposed to violence and abuse on a daily basis, and have to support their children alone. Shimama works to improve the quality of life for women in the DR Congo by ensuring that they feel safe, respected and increase their position in society.

People with disabilities

Society should make arrangements to avoid barriers for people with disabilities. In the Congo, people with disabilities have no rights and are considered a burden. Shimama wants to help these people.

School and education

Shimama works to improve school provision in South Kivu in the DR Congo. We will make sure to strengthen the local population, build relationships, protect and create a safe and educational everyday school life.
